High Point Elementary is a Title 1 school in the greater Atlanta area, that has a student population of approximately 750 students in Grades Pre K through 5th. The “High Point Hound Dogs” have been through a number of identity and branding changes. Over the years, marks would blend together, lose consistency and direction. 485 was asked to start fresh. The logo needed to push diversity, high academic expectations and performance—with a touch of school history. It also needed to maintain a younger student body look and feel while being recognized as a professional education center.
The result was a logo that showed a variety of children, flanked by “Buddy” the hound dog. Each child’s silhouette is shown in a different overlapping color, posed in either states of play or study. Giving a nod to the past, we found the same font used in original school signage and yearbooks from 1963. It also works as a system. Breaking into individual children—still flanked by Buddy or one that shows a specific activity. Examples being athletic teams and academic competitions. It also gives the mark a lot of flexibility in size and use, while staying visible and specific.
